About a month ago, we spoke about Lego and their new lineup, the Lego Spike Prime. The company that built its products one block at a time (see what I did there), recently announced a new lineup of products. Aimed at all the Star Wars fans, this is the Lego Star Wars Boost Droid Commander.

The Lego Star Wars Boost Droid Commander set was launched to commemorate Star Wars Day (4th of May) with an actual release planned for September. This is to coincide with Star Wars: The Rise of Sky Walker.
This is the set you’ve been looking for
The kit comprises of 1,177 pieces. These pieces are coupled with color and distance sensors. In addition, there’s also an interactive motor. Using the set, you can build your own R2D2, Gonk and Mouse Droid. But building them is only half the fun.
Once these figures have been built, you can command them on 40 different missions. How? Well, this is where Lego’s STEM system comes in to play. Users can build the sets and use the drag and drop coding system of Lego Boost to create Star Wars stories. The kit is part of the Lego Boost Creative Toolbox which launched in 2017. It combines the sheer fun of building Legos with an equally interactive app as well.
The Boost app offers guidance for users to complete tasks, but also allows the user to make their own program as well. This, in turn, develops a user’s problem-solving ability. Because the programming language is block based, even those with no prior knowledge about coding (kids or adults alike) can make use of this.

Starting on the planet Tattoine, the user is given different coding missions by famous in game characters. Each of the 3 droids also have their own individual missions. Because you’ll be using one droid at a time, Lego has constructed the droids in such a way that you can pop one open, and swap the electronic components in or out without taking the entire drone apart.
Each drone also has a number of different accessories that you can make use of in these 40 missions. Once you’re done with the missions, you can even create your own custom programs. All you need to do is head to the Jawa’s Sandcrawler. Once there, you will have access to all the programming blocks/functions. These can be used to control one of the 3 droids. If you’re feeling up to it, you can even create your own droid as well.
When can I get my hands on a Lego Star Wars Boost Droid Commander set?
According to Lego, the set will be available alongside the release of the next Star Wars movie. In terms of pricing, you’re looking at $199.99 (approx: LKR. 35,456) for the Lego Star Wars Boost Droid Commander set. It’s about 40% more than the original Boost set, but you also get more pieces and a Star Wars game as well.
It’s by no means a cheap investment. But If you’re a die-hard Star Wars and Lego fan, and you have the cash to splash, then go ahead and get one. If you do, we would love to take a look at it.
