Would you buy a Xiaomi CC9 or Xiaomi CC9e?

Choosing a smartphone is not exactly an easy task. The smartphone market is highly saturated with multiple lineups of smartphones from the same manufacturer. There are also partnerships between smartphone companies and 3rd parties. Nokia and Zeiss are a good example of this. So what’s the deal with Xiaomi? Well, the company is unveiling their latest lineup of smartphones, the Xiaomi CC9 and Xiaomi CC9e focusing on selfie-takers (pun intended).

What’s so special about the Xiaomi CC9 and Xiaomi CC9e?

Well, for starters, the new lineup is in cooperation with Meitu. In case you didn’t know, Meitu is a Chinese technology company that makes smartphones and selfie apps. It was acquired by Xiaomi last November. According to Xiaomi, the Mi CC lineup stands for camera+camera referring to the lineup’s dual-camera feature. On the other hand, it also relates to a number of terms such as chic, cool, colorful and creative.

Taking a look at the specs of the Xiaomi CC9 and CC9e

According to Xiaomi, both the Xiaomi CC9 and CC9e will have 3D glass bodies. While the CC9 is rumored to have a 6.39” FHD+ OLED display, the CC9e is rumored to have a smaller 5.97” display. The CC9 would also be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 and have a 4,000 mAh battery. Other specs for the Xiaomi CC9 include a 48MP primary lens, a 16MP secondary and a 12MP as a third one on the rear. On the front would be a 32MP front facing camera, upto 8GB of RAM and upto 256GB of internal storage.

The CC9e, on the other hand would be powered by a Snapdragon 710. It would also pack a smaller 3,500 mAh battery. In terms of the camera, the Xiaomi CC9e would consist of a 48MP primary sensor, 8MP secondary and 5MP sensor along with a 32 MP front facing camera. The CC9e would also have upto 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Sadly, it’s not expandable.

Why does Xiaomi want to launch another lineup of smartphones?

That is indeed an interesting question. We saw the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 take the world by storm, giving flagship level specifications at around $300. The Xiaomi CC9 would start at around $378 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Xiaomi CC9e, on the other hand, would start off around $232 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

In case you missed it, Xiaomi is clearly aiming for millennials with the new CC9 lineup. It’s also highly probable that on top of MIUI 10 running off Android 9 Pie, Meitu would also contribute by incorporating some of their selfie apps to encourage people to play around with selfies and add various effects and whatnot. While it may seem pointless to some, these features might be highly appealing to others. This is especially true if the target audience is heavily into social media and the likes.

Hopefully, we’ll see the Xiaomi CC9 and Xiaomi CC9e in action in Sri Lanka as well. Judging by the looks of the devices, they are quite aesthetically pleasing, with powerful cameras to boot. If you are planning on getting a CC9 or CC9e, we would love to hear your experience with it.
