Recently, Great Place to Work® Sri Lanka released its list of Top 10 IT/ITes Workplaces in Sri Lanka. Amongst the leading companies on this list is Gapstars, which was also previously recognized as a Great Place to Work for 5 consecutive years and a Great Place to Work for Millennials. Since its founding in 2015, Gapstars – a Netherlands-based B2B service provider, has been bridging Europe’s tech talent crunch with remote teams of talented IT professionals in Sri Lanka.

The company has grown rapidly in recent times and shows no signs of stopping. Its team of 175+ in Colombo is projected to hit over 300 by the end of 2022. With this growth, the company has continuously invested in several initiatives toward creating a positive work culture for its employees. The collective sum of these efforts has resulted in Gapstars continually being recognized as a Great Place to Work in several categories.

Speaking to Arteculate, CEO of Gapstars, Hugo Hemmen shared, “Our shared passion for excellence, the need for creating a bigger impact within Gapstars and the IT community, and treating one another as part of one big family have propelled us to reach greater heights in the industry. We are committed to cooperating fully in driving continuous improvement in our people practices, and the Great Place to Work certification has been a key milestone to do just that!”

The culture within Gapstars has been built atop several initiatives for its employees’ personal and professional development. A notable among these has been facilitating visits of its Sri Lankan team members to its Amsterdam HQ. Thereby allowing them better engage with clients and gain a deeper understanding of their business. Alongside this, Gapstars also has a mentoring program in place, where the seniors of the team guide junior members. Throughout it all, there has always been a strong focus on providing equal opportunities for women.

The latest effort by the company to invest in the career development of its employees is the Gapstars Academy. This initiative aims to create customized programs for each employee to develop their technical, professional, and soft skills. So far this year, the program has engaged in upskilling employees through a Toastmasters Speechcraft program alongside specialized sessions covering personal branding, personal finance, and business communication. Meanwhile, on the technical side, Gapstars supports its engineers in developing their skills by helping them obtain certifications and facilitating forums with experts.

From its earliest days, Gapstars has been committed to building a corporate culture celebrating hard work with a work-life balance for all. Alongside the initiatives listed above, the company has also taken other measures to ensure the well-being of its employees. These include an in-house counselor for their mental well-being, salaries pegged to the Euro, and gym memberships for their physical health. The collective impact of these efforts is how Gapstars continues to score highly in The Great Place to Work® Certification Program for providing a strong and positive employee experience.

As Gapstars continues on its journey, its CEO, Hugo Hemmen, reaffirmed its commitment to building a positive culture stating, “At Gapstars, ‘Our People’ always come first. Whether it is great technical expertise, timely delivery, or simply the assurance that comes from a trusted developer relationship, in the end, it is our people who make the difference. From our inception, the cultures embedded in our value system, growth, impact, and family have enabled an environment for our people to bring in the best version of themselves and flourish.”
